Allison Barkley - President
Healing Notes was founded under the leadership of Allison Barkley, a mother of three who experienced the therapeutic benefits of music therapy first hand when her newborn son was struggling for his life as a result of a blood disorder. After observing a dramatic improvement in the condition of another infant in the same neonatal unit after several days of music therapy, Allison advocated for the use of this therapy for her son and soon saw his condition improve, as well. Seeing a definite need and opportunity to bring music therapy into the hospitals of San Diego, Allison joined forces with Barbara Reuer PhD-MTC, implementing the first music therapy program in San Diego specifically targeting hospitalized children. The program began in 2004 at Rady Children’s Hospital and has grown to also include The Ronald McDonald House and Palomar Hospital, with invitations from several other local hospitals awaiting funding. Allison’s background in makeup artistry in the entertainment industry as well as her marketing and event coordinating experience has helped to create strong supportive relationships in the community and guarantee the success of the Healing Notes Annual Benefit Concerts. She has used her talents to build collaborative relationships with other local non- profit such as Cancer Coping Center, The Ronald McDonald House and The Rob Machado Foundation. Through this combination of her experience and determination, Allison is dedicated to promoting the mission, vision and values of Healing Notes to stakeholders including parents, pediatric professionals, philanthropic organizations and children’s health organizations.
Shannon Moniz - Vice President

She develop a Cause Marketing Campaign for a local mortgage company helping to reach out and collaborate with Healing Notes as well as several local non profits which included organizations such as Friends of the City and The Ronald McDonald House. Her strong ties in the community have helped not only raise funding for the Healing Notes music therapy programs but develop strong professional connections with organizations and businesses throughout the community. Shannon joined the board taking on the position of Vice President in January of 2006.
